Pre-fall shopping

pre fall shopping

We’re reaching the end of summer but the weather is still quite warm and I haven’t properly started thinking about my winter wardrobe yet (though I have done a small clear out to make way for new pieces) so this month has been about make up, lingerie and comfy shoes.

I desperately needed some new make up and there seem to be quite a few new palettes out at the moment. The ones I decided to go for are the illamasqua sculpting palette and the urban decay smokey eye palette. I was initially sceptical about the sculpting palette as the colours look a bit dark and warm for me but I went into selfridges and got them to try it out on me and decided it was just what I needed. I was immediately drawn to the naked smokey palette because of the greater variety in tone compared to the previous ones. I also love the larger mirror and the fact that the shades really compliment the  ones in the sculpting palette.

My love of strappy lingerie is no secret so I wanted to feature a couple of my recent favourites. The bra is from one of my own recent collection, Vanguard and the briefs are from a designer I’ve loved for a while, so I had to get a pair when they went in the sale. The colour probably seems like a bit of an odd choice but I have loads of black lingerie and am trying to branch out a bit.

Finding stylish comfy shoes is always a bonus and the brogues in particular, are a bargain. I also need some new docs and since I’ve realised black is really the most practical boot colour for me, I decided to go for some texture with the snake print.

Current Obsessions: Style

This month I’ve been obsessed with re-defining my style and pin-pointing my new wardrobe staples.

I see style as something that constantly evolves as you mature and change circumstances and habits and I love that about it, but I also love those pieces you can wear year after year, without feeling they’ve become tired.

current obsessions- StyleI currently love easy but dramatic dresses, drapey cardigans,  printed sheers, harness bras, tight or harem style bottoms and leather boots and jackets.

I’d also love to hear what you’re wardrobe stapes are.

Depeche Vogue

I recently started contributing to Rebelicious magazine with an inspiration and shopping feature. I’ve been featured in the magazine a few times so I thought it was time I give something back and I hope readers appreciate my taste.

depeche vogue3This is this months feature, which you can view online in the current issue preview.

If you aren’t familiar with Rebelicious, you should definitely check it out. They offer online and print versions as well as additional online content and features.

depeche vogue 1Those of you who read my blog are probably used to my current obsession posts. I’m thinking about taking them monthly and introducing a new feature soon to keep things fresh.

I especially enjoy the shopping feature and featuring my favourite independent brands, though I always try and keep it balanced with some easily accessible high street finds that are perfect for that last minute night out.

I’d love to hear what you think of Depeche Vogue and also if there’s something specific you’d like to see on here.

LFW 14 Part 2, inspiration.

Being in London already, I thought it would be a good opportunity to visit Berwick street and some of the fabric shops I used to frequent while at university. I’m showing at Manchester Fashion Week in April and I want to include some of my non-latex pieces in the show.

I haven’t been for a while and I noticed a couple of new additions to the row of shops, but my favourites remain the same.

light leathersleathers darkMisan had a great range of both natural and artificial leathers in various textures and colour combinations that I found really inspiring. I’m really into textures and juxtaposition this season so I’d love to be able to add some of these into my collection but aside from the fact that they are probably slightly out of budget, it’s also really hard to determine whether they are ethically sourced.

IMG_4894The cloth house is always great for jersey and knitted fabrics, there were at least 5 I’d love to add to my range but I’ve decided to keep it as simple as possible this time and focus more on the fabric story next year.

lightfabricsI also spotted this long pile, grey faux fur and light textured fabrics in the second Misan shop, further down the road. Faux fur is quite new to me as I’ve only recently decided it can look good. I love the feel and colour of this one but I’m not convinced on the price so I’m going to shop around a bit longer.

We finished off the expedition with a trip to Covent garden to visit my favourite tea shop, the tea house, (I love trying new flavours and also find it quite inspiring as I drink it while I work), and the astrology shop where I browsed scented oils and bought gem stone rings.

photo 3 bb657d129f3e11e3b8cd1227d7fa1b14_8I bought two rings, one in opalite and one in faceted hematite. I think they go with my other “every day” rings and hopefully won’t discolour or irritate my hands. I was particularly happy because it only cost me £3 for the pair!

Hematite is a particularly good one for me to wear as it is said to counteract the negative effects the computer has on your energy body.

photo 2I decided to swap them round in the end and now wear them so the opalite and moon stone aren’t next to each other. I will take a better picture, without the gloves when I get the chance.

We’re going to be out almost all day so I need something stylish yet comfortable for walking around and standing in queues in. This is why I’ve opted for chunky heels and platforms.
