Smokey layers

A couple of weeks ago, I attended my friend Cassie’s graduate exhibition at the Foundation Coffee House in Manchester. A couple of days earlier we had been shopping and I picked up a long tunic-style skirt and some lace brogues from H&M, which I decided to incorporate into my outfit. I don’t think I’ve ever bought such inexpensive shoes before but they are beautiful and surprisingly comfy.

Vanguard concept shoot

The Vanguard concept shoot images are here! I have been waiting for the full set to be completed before posting these as it was my favourite project so far this year and I wanted to show it off in full.

The team that help me bring this idea to life did an excellent job and they deserve every credit. Shooting on location can be challenging, especially when alternating between different settings and working with animals.

Photography, retouching, model direction: Toria Brightside

Models: Amber and Hazel @VAUHAUS and myself.

Make up: Laura Wilson

Hair and styling: me

The jewellery for the collection was made by Richard Ayres, who was also dog-handler at the shoot.

Special thanks to our driver Ben, who also looked after the dogs while we were shooting.

Extra special thanks to Eustratia and Vauhaus interns Lindsay and Lauren who facilitated and carried, set of smoke bombs and ran around holding them to get the right effect, fixed and pressed garments and helped out with the images.

We also really appreciate Barney’s owners bringing him down for the shoot.

The garments are available for sale, here.

We shot this over three different locations and by the time we got to the last one, we only had 5 minutes of daylight left but we managed to make it work and the images in the last set are some of my favourites.

The harness cami has so far emerged as the best-seller from this range and can be purchased with 20% off till midday on Wednesday.

Today it really felt like spring has arrived. It’s the first warm day we’ve had this year an I was pleased that my arctic vest from Efy Clothing turned up just in time to get my arms out. It was only sent out yesterday so I was impressed with the fast delivery. I’m trying to introduce more colour into my wardrobe and I love the crisp look of digital prints. This one features Owls and Orcas in a mirrored print and combines cold and warm colours, which makes it match both my hair and red lipstick at the same time.

There was still a few windy spells so I paired the vest with my new leather jacket from Asos as well as lots of gold chainmail to bring out the owls’ eyes and add a bit of an edge to my outfit.

I wanted to take pictures in the sun to document its existence but also in the shade because the details of my outfit showed up better. In the end I decided to do both.

Winter project

Every so often, I feel compelled to create some images of my own. It could be to experiment with a new hair or makeup look, find the right setting for a new product I’ve created, or bring to life an image that popped into my head.

This time it was “all of the above” and I shot a couple of images featuring my “Freya” crop top, moth necklace and butterfly head piece.
winter moth 2bI also shot a new image for the “moth girl” t-shirt, as the previous one didn’t really inspire me.

I continued the set with a set featuring my dog, Charlie, which I will post next time.

Jaime Wei Huang

We kicked off the season with a familiar face, Jaime Wei Huang. I always enjoy her designs and the air of utilitarianism that ties together all her collections.

This time though, there was an unexpected and captivating dark edge to the signature apronesque silhouettes. Straps and leather tassels hung down, accentuating the models movement.

The unmistakable sound of  Rammstein set the tone while models strutted down the catwalk in chunky shoes and with wet hair obscuring their faces .

They were cocooned in oversized aviator jackets, wrapped in faux fur, adorned with tassels and draped with straps.

The tasseled back packs and gloves with different attachments complemented the clothes perfectly and added just the right amount of detail to the look.

IMG_4467The fur was panelled into the garments, adding volume in unusual places (back and arms), altering their silhouettes and adding a touch of softness to an overall tough aesthetic.

I would describe the collection as dramatic but wearable. I saw a lot of pieces that could easily be integrated into my wardrobe but would continue to make a statement whenever worn.
